New Business to Open Next Month in Brookville

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – Brookville will be getting some classic looks from a new business opening on Main Street in October.

Pink Flamingos Luxury Vintage Resale is set to open sometime in October, though owner Adrianna Rubino says an official Grand Opening date hasn’t been set.

Rubino, already familiar to many locals as the co-owner of The Opera House Cafe, with her husband, Sam, has been looking forward to this for a very long time.

“I’ve always collected vintage clothing and have a collection that dates back to the 18th century. It’s just something I’ve always been interested in, and I’ve always dreamed of opening a vintage shop,” Rubino told ExploreJeffersonPA.com.

“This is just what I’ve always wanted to do.”

Rubino has already been hard at work, preparing her storefront, which is located at 257 Main Street in Brookville, painting, adding the window decal, and getting her merchandise ready.

The merchandise, she noted, is the real showpiece.

“It’s a whole aesthetic,” she noted.

“And I think there’s a lot of value in vintage because so many things were made local by artisans, milliners, and tailers, and not made in factories. Again, there’s a sustainability to it. There’s no waste going on there. It’s something that can be reused.”

Sustainability is something Rubino particularly values, both in the restaurant and in her new business.

According to Rubino, she also doesn’t want people to see her store as “just another antique and vintage place,” but as something unique, a vintage and luxury store to try to draw more people into Brookville to shop.

“It’s not just for locals, it’s for everyone. It’s to bring people into town.”

While most of the feed-back Rubino has gotten on her developing business so far has been incredibly positive, it hasn’t been all roses. She noted that someone recently left a note outside of her newly painted storefront which said the “colors would look fantastic in Latin American but not in Brookville.”

“I still have no idea what that person was thinking,” Rubino noted.

“They could have just said ‘I’m not a fan of the colors.’ I don’t care if you don’t like my colors, but when you link it to an ethnicity like that, especially since I’m Hispanic, that was hurtful.”

She hasn’t let one person’s criticism get her down, though, and has no intention of changing her color scheme.

“If anything, we actually considered painting the top of the building in a rainbow,” she said.

She’s also not daunted by the challenge of managing both the cafe and the new store.

“I have an executive chef and a sous chef at the restaurant now and I can run over there and be back quickly if I need to.”

While the official date for the Grand Opening of Pink Flamingos Luxury Vintage Resale has yet to be decided, Rubino says there will be a special event to showcase some of the items available in advance.

Rubino is planning to hold a vintage luxury fashion show to showcase her fall collection and let everyone see exactly what her new business will have to offer.

“I’m super excited and the people around me seem super excited. It’s definitely going to be something a little different.”
