BROOKVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A New York man is facing felony drug charges after he was reportedly caught recently in Brookville Borough in possession of a quantity of cocaine and prescription drugs.
Court documents indicate the Brookville Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 26-year-old Kanuleh Oumarou, of Bronx, New York.
According to a criminal complaint, around 9:42 a.m. on February 28, Brookville Borough Police were dispatched to a business on Allegheny Boulevard for a report of a disorderly customer. The customer was described as a black adult male driving a black Audi with a temporary Texas registration.
The complaint notes while heading north on Allegheny Boulevard, police observed a vehicle matching the description from the incident pulling out of another business, with no lights on despite the rain. The vehicle was also noted to have heavily tinted windows so the driver could not be seen. Police then initiated a traffic stop.
According to the complaint, when asked about the incident at the local business, the driver said he had attempted to purchase gas and was unable to do so because of an issue with his card and said he had then been given six dollars by an individual, and a second individual was going to help, but he was then told to leave by the employees of the business.
The complaint states while police were speaking with the driver, they observed two unused ziplock baggies with small figures on them on the passenger seat that were consistent with baggies often used for the distribution of controlled substances.
Police then asked the driver for his identification, and he reportedly stated that he didn’t have any. However, the officers had seen his driver’s license in his wallet when he had picked it up. The man then opened his wallet, and police noted it contained a plastic straw, cut in half, which is common for snorting controlled substances, according to the complaint.
The man was then asked to step out of the vehicle. During a pat-down, police discovered a large bulge that the driver stated was medication wrapped in a bag. Police removed the items and found it to be a white fabric glove, with a rubber glove inside, which contained numerous baggies of white powder, the complaint states.
The driver, later identified as Kanuleh Oumarou, was then placed under arrest.
According to the complaint, a further search of the vehicle located multiple Alprazolam (a schedule 4 controlled substance) pills in a ziplock baggie, 100 ensued ziplock baggies, two more baggies of white powder, a Buprenorphine strip, and a New Jersey driver’s license belonging to another known man.
It was discovered that Oumarou did not have a valid driver’s license.
The complaint also notes the white substance later tested positive as cocaine.
Oumarou was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak at 1:00 p.m. on February 28, on the following charges:
– Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony
– Possession of Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor
– Use/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor
– Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 3
– Drive While Operator Privilege Suspended or Revoked, Summary
– Periods for Required Lighted Lamps – Any Time Windshield Wipers Are On, Summary
Unable to post $20,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. on March 11, with Judge Bazylak presiding.
