Newly Elected Politicians Take Office in Jefferson County

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) — Two newly elected officials took office Tuesday in Jefferson County.

Punxsutawney native, Brenda Shumaker, took office Tuesday as the County Coroner.

Long-time coroner Bernie Snyder opted not to run because of health issues.

Shumaker easily won the general election in November with more than 82 percent of the vote.

Shumaker operates funeral homes in Punxsy, Brookville, and Big Run.

For the District Judge post in Punxsutawney, Jacqueline “Sis” Mizerock took over after veteran judge Douglas R. Chambers elected to call it a career after 43 years on the bench, including the last 24 in Punxsutawney.

Mizerock, who is from Punxsutawney, previously worked in the Clarion County District Attorney’s office as an assistant district attorney.

Mizerock graduated from Duquesne School of Law with a Juris Doctor Degree, completed externships at the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General and for the Honorable Judge O’Toole, Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, Criminal Division.

Mizerock is also an active volunteer with the Punxsutawney Area Community Center, Rotary Club, Salvation Army, and Lisa’s Lady Bugs, which is a group that is close to her heart after losing her mother to cancer at a very young age.
