Nola Yoas Coates

Nola Yoas Coates, 101, passed away at her home on March 30, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on the family farm in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania on September 16, 1919.

She was a home economics teacher for over 30 years in the Sparta, Youngsville, and Union City Schools; and enjoyed gardening, quilting, baking, and traveling.

Nola was married on September 1, 1945 to Sgt. Emery Coates of Spartansburg. Shortly thereafter, they moved to a farm in Corry, where she lived for the past 70 years. She was a member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Corry, Pennsylvania for over 60 years.

In addition to her husband; she was preceded in death by her parents, Ai O. Yoas and Elizabeth Best Yoas; three brothers; four sisters; and her son in law, George Andersen.

Surviving are her daughters, Annette Coates of Virginia and Darlene Andersen of Minnesota; grandson, Mark Andersen; granddaughter, Elizabeth Christianson and her husband Doug; and a great grandson, Noah Christianson.

A private family service will be held in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

Burial will take place at Round Top Cemetery, Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church, 201 E. South Street, Corry, Pennsylvania 16407.
