JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) – The National Weather Service has confirmed that two tornadoes hit Jefferson County on August 21.
According to a release issued by the National Weather Service office in Pittsburgh, the first tornado was identified in Knox Township around 4:25 p.m. on August 21.
Officials say the tornado hit near Fuller and Center Hill Roads to just west of the State Game Lands.
After review of the damage, the National Weather Service classified the tornado as an EF-0 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale with speeds up to 80 MPH and a path width of 20 yards.
The max path length of the tornado was .7 miles.
Damage was limited to hardwood trees.
A second tornado was confirmed in McCalmont Township around 4:27 p.m.
According to investigators, it touched down near Anita, along Knox Panic-Knoxdale Road and Center Hill Road.
The National Weather Service utilized photographic evidence and a “damage survey” to confirm the tornado.
Damage was limited to trees in rough and forested terrain. No structural damage was noted. The tornado was rated as an EF-0 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale with wind speeds up to 80 MPH and a path width of 50 yards.
The max path length of the tornado was 5 miles.
The tornado ended around 4:35 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
