Oreta R. Downer, age 92, of South Eighth Street, DuBois, PA died Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at the DuBois Nursing Home.
Born December 4, 1922 in Tyler, PA, she was the daughter of the late James and Edna (Vivian) Peters.
On January 6, 1945 at St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church in DuBois, PA, she married Earl “George” Downer. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2013.
Oreta worked at the Pool and Patio Store in Virginia for 13 years. She also was a teacher’s aide for 8 years in Virginia and Florida.
Mrs. Downer was a member St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was a member of the Ladies of the Lake and a member of the Auxiliary of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 65 where she served as adjutant and state of Pennsylvania chaplain. She was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in the DuBois area.
Oreta is survived by her children: E. George Downer, Jr. and his wife, Carol of Treasure Lake, PA, Oreta Catherine Pierce and her husband, Daniel of Woodbridge, VA, James W. Downer of Wilmington, NC and Ricky F. Downer of Springfield, VA, a brother, Lamar W. Peters of Lake Ridge, VA, 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, James Peters.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 from 4-7 P.M. at the Goble Baronick Funeral Home.
The rosary will be prayed on Friday afternoon at 3:15 P.M. from the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 10 A.M. from St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Siefer as celebrant.
Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.
