Pedestrian Struck on Route 68, Suffers Major Injuries

A moving ambulance on it''s way to a crash site.CLARION TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – Clarion-based State Police say a pedestrian was seriously injured in an accident that occurred last night on State Route 68, South 5th Avenue, south of Boundary Street, in Clarion Township.

According to police, around 10:02 p.m. on May 2, 43-year-old Herbert D. Long, of Clarion, attempted to cross SR 68 from the west side of the roadway, near Smoke 4 Less, and was struck by a 2004 Ford Focus – driven by 63-year-old Stephen A. Wencil, of Clarion – that was traveling north on SR 68, police say.

Long was carried approximately 25 feet on the hood of the car and then dislodged and came to a rest in the northbound lane approximately 58 feet from the initial point of impact.

The car came to a rest approximately 50 feet from the point of impact.

Long suffered major injuries and was transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

Wencil was not injured.

A passenger in his car, 63-year-old Catherine C. Wencil, of Clarion, suffered minor injuries.

Police say Long was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

No citations were issued, according to police.

Clarion Hospital EMS assisted at the scene.
