PennDOT Honors Star of Excellence Recipients

penndotINDIANA, Pa. – PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch Wednesday recognized 27 PennDOT employees for their outstanding performance with the Star of Excellence Award, PennDOT’s highest recognition. One employee from PennDOT’s District 10, which represents Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Indiana, and Jefferson counties, was among the honorees.

“The Star of Excellence award illustrates that these are employees who set an example for their colleagues through their leadership and dedication to providing exceptional service,” Schoch said. “Our customers have entrusted a great investment to us with the new transportation plan, and these recipients are helping us meet our goals in each focus of our mission.”

Local winner Daniel S. Tyger of Indiana was honored Wednesday afternoon at an awards luncheon at the Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg.

“Dan’s great attitude, customer focus, and commitment to the Department’s goals make him an excellent choice for this award,” says Joseph P. Dubovi, III, P.E., District Executive.

Daniel S. Tyger, District Traffic Control Specialist, has been with PennDOT for over 8 years. Dan works with construction project managers in the field to solve difficult traffic situations to reduce congestion and promote efficient traffic flow. Dan’s creative thinking and innovative solution saved the Department time and money by eliminating the need for a design consultant review. It also saved the travelling public time and fuel by eliminating congestion and wait times. Dan’s ability to work through difficult problems over his seven-year tenure in the District Traffic Unit has earned him positive feedback.

The Star of Excellence Awards are presented annually to employees who represent the Department’s values of service, performance and integrity. The recipients represent a variety of organizational positions, spanning from highway maintenance and driver and vehicle services workers, to programming specialists, communications staff and design and engineering specialists.
