Pennsylvania of 21,000 years ago was a much different place.
Massive glaciers up to 1 mile high ranged within 70 miles of Jefferson County creating a much different landscape and environment for the earliest Native American explorers to this area.
This topic will be discussed in depth when Thomas Glover presents “Pennsylvania’s Paleoclimate at the Last Glacial Maximum “ at the Friday, February 19 meeting of the North Fork Chapter 29 of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology.
His program will present a model to estimate Pennsylvania’s macroclimate during the Last Glacial Maximum, 18,000 – 21,000 BP. He will also present an overview of periglacial features from Pennsylvania that supports the model’s estimates.
