Peter “Paul” Baranich

1719295_profile_pic[1]Peter “Paul” Baranich, 78, Punxsutawney, died Tuesday, December 15, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with Guillain Barre Syndrome and Cancer.

He was born November 6, 1937, in Punxsutawney, a son of the late Mary (Sentelik) and Peter Baranich.

On July 17, 1978, he married Julie (Hettish) Baranich, who survives.

He was a graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School Class of 1955.

Paul was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves. He served with the 4th Howitzer Battalion of the 92nd Field Artillery when the reserve unit from Punxsutawney was activated during the Berlin Crisis in 1961.

He is a member of Saints Cosmas and Damian Church and the American Legion.

He worked for Dean Phipps, Superior Meter, Jackson China, and the Sherwin Williams Company. He was a manager for the Sherwin Williams Company for thirteen years. In 1977 he opened his own business, “Paul’s World of Home Decorating,” which he and his Wife owned and operated for twenty years until his retirement in 1997.

He was an avid baseball player. In his early years he was dubbed “The Iron Man” due to his record breaking pitching ability.

In addition of to his wife Julie, he is survived a sister Margaret Spolarich; two sister-in-laws, Margaret Hettish and Sr. Rita Marie R.S.M.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, John, Michael, George, and Andrew Baranich; and three sisters, Ann Russo, Mary Baranich, and Helen Baranich.

Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m., Friday, December 18, 2015, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 19, 2015, at Saints Cosmas and Damian Church with Monsignor Joseph Riccardo officiating.

Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Punxsutawney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Sisters of Mercy, 444 East Grandview Blvd., Erie, PA 16504, SS. Cosmas and Damian Church, 616 West Mahoning Street, Punxsutawney, PA 15767, or to the charity of the donors’ choice.
