Pitt’s Kayla Harris Named ACC Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Pittsburgh softball player Kayla Harris has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week for her dominant performances in the circle against St. Bonaventure and NC State.

“Kayla did a great job keeping the ball down in the zone and hitting her spots,” head coach Holly Aprile said. “She worked hard to stay in a ‘one pitch at a time’ mentality and it really paid off.”

In four appearances, Harris earned three wins, including two against ACC opponent NC State. In total, the sophomore allowed just three runs to cross the plate in 15 innings pitched. Harris finished the weekend with 17 strikeouts.

In her two conference wins, she held the Wolfpack to just five hits and two walks in eight innings of work. Against St. Bonaventure, she struck out six batters en route to a complete game shutout in five innings.

The Chesapeake, Va. native is now 13-8 on the season with a team best 2.43 ERA in 112.1 innings pitched. She joins teammate Sarah Dawson as the second Panther to receive ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week honors this season.

Harris shared this week’s ACC honors with Virginia Tech pitcher Maggie Tyler.
