CHAD GREVILLE – SENIOR – KANE
Son of: Liza and Dick Greville
Sports Played: Through his junior season he has only played basketball but he is planning on running cross country as a senior as well
Family Members Playing/Played Sports: His dad was a good pole vaulter in high school and now so is his little brother, Josh, who was a freshman and went to jump at districts this past year. In the fall, Josh plays soccer and in the winter, it’s basketball. His mom didn’t play any high school sports but she competed at some really big horse shows and still rides today.
2018-19 Highlights: Was named an AML All-Star after averaging a team-leading 13.4 points per game this past season. He scored 20 or more points five times including a season-high 26 against Elk County Catholic. He enters his senior season with unofficially 918 career points.
Post-High School Plans: He definitely wants to go on to college and works towards a career as a lawyer, like his grandpa, Judge (John) Cleland. If everything works out, he would like to have a chance to play basketball too, then that would be a dream come true.
Q&A With Chad Greville
D9Sports: What is your favorite sport to participate in and why?
CG: Basketball is my favorite, it’s explosive, action-packed and exciting. It lets you play with a team and build all kinds of relationships with different teammates and coaches, while also being one of the most fun games to be a part of. Another reason it’s my favorite is its culture; its community, its music, its shoes, I embrace it all and it makes basketball that much more enjoyable to play.
D9Sports: What is your favorite memory, moment, game from playing high school sports?
CG: My favorite memory might be playing with Andrew Bucheit my freshman year when he scored 56 points to reach the 1000 mark in a home game. It was inspiring because it showed me in my first year everything that high school sports can be for people that work hard at them.
D9Sports: Why do you play high school sports?
CG: They’re a great way to push yourself mentally and also stay in great physical shape. The opportunity to play sports with teammates is a huge benefit, too.
D9Sports: Who has had the most influence on your athletic career and why?
CG: My parents have definitely had the greatest effect on my athletic career by always supporting me. They deserve all the credit in the world for having my back and taking me to practices, games and travel tournaments all over the place so that all I had to worry about was playing ball. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t have the same love for sports. Thank you, Mom and Dad! I’ve had some great coaches, too, like Matt Gasbarre and Caleb Landmesser at Kane; Rogers Laugand and Joe Deas on one travel team; and Shad Boschert and Adair Rohr for another.
D9Sports: If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be and why?
CG: A lot of the time, boys’ and girls ‘teams play basketball games on the same days so it’s hard to come support at each other’s games. It would be nice for that to change.
D9Sports: If you could be president for a day, what would be the one major thing you would do?
CG: I’d give public schools more resources to offer a better education for all students.
D9Sports: What is your ideal place to live? County, City, Suburb? Why?
CG: Probably in the country because I like to live with a lot of space and privacy, but in the general area of a city so it wouldn’t be too long of a long drive to go there. That would be my perfect scenario.
D9Sports: What would someone who doesn’t know you be surprised to find out about you?
CG: I recently became a certified lifeguard.
D9Sports: What is your strongest subject in school?
CG: English and Writing are my strong suits when it comes to the classroom.
D9Sports: If there was one period in history or one event in history you could go back to, what would it be?
CG: I’d have loved to have been alive in the Old West and been a cowboy. Yeehaw.
D9Sports: What question do you wish I would have asked you? And what is the answer to it?
CG: I wish you would have asked about extracurriculars. I participate in class government, Student Council, NHS, Quiz Bowl, and maybe my favorite, helping coach our elementary girls’ basketball teams in Kane.
