Playoff Results Cause Shakeup in D9Sports.com Football Rankings

St. Marys enters the Top Five of the Nov. 9, 2014, First Commonwealth Bank/D9Sports.com District 9 Top 10 Football Rankings at No. 5 and Brockway (No. 8) and Kane (No. 7) reenter the rankings after playoff wins this past week.

The biggest change is Kane (8-3) moving from No. 7 to No. 3 after knocking off previous No. 3 Clarion (10-2) in the District 9 Class A semifinals. The Bobcats fall to No. 5.

Also moving up in the rankings is Brockway (7-5), which moves into the No. 7 spot from the No. 8 spot after a win over previous No. 6 Union (6-6) in the other Class A semifinal game. The loss drops the Golden Knights to ninth in the latest rankings.

DuBois (8-3) remains in the top spot despite its loss to State College in the District 6-9 Class AAAA title game, while Karns City (10-1) is in at No. 2 for the third straight week following a win over St. Marys in the District 9 Class AA title game with the Dutch (8-4) dropping to No. 6. Clearfield (9-3) remains at No. 4 following a season-ending loss to Somerset in the District 5-6-8-9 title game.

Redbank Valley (7-3) moves into the No. 8 spot despite its season being over with the justification being the Bulldogs beat No. 9 Union. Ridgway (9-2), which lost twice to Union drops to No. 10.

Only one game inside of District 9 is left to be played, the Class A title game, and that will feature No. 3 Kane vs. No. 7 Brockway at 7 p.m. Friday night at Clarion University’s Memorial Stadium. Karns City is the only other District 9 team still in action with the Gremlins traveling to Chestnut Ridge for an interdistrict sub-regional contest at 7 p.m. Friday as well.
