Police: Charges Filed After Woman Points Gun at Man During Violent Domestic Dispute

WASHINGTON TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State Police filed charges against a local couple following a violent domestic altercation in Washington Township.

Court documents indicate the DuBois-based State Police filed criminal charges against 37-year-old Davy Joe Black and 38-year-old Dawn Marie Black, both of Falls Creek.

According to a criminal complaint, around 12:25 a.m. on March 29, DuBois-based State Police were dispatched to an active domestic incident at a residence on Stevenson Hill Road in Washington Township. At the scene, police found Davy Black standing outside on the porch.

According to the complaint, Davy Black related he had been in a domestic dispute with his wife, Dawn Black, and said she was in the downstairs bathroom. He related that he and his wife were arguing, and she threw the bedsheets on the floor, and he then threw a pillow at her. He reported she then grabbed a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol off of the nightstand and aimed it at him.

The complaint notes Davy Black explained he is currently enlisted in the U.S. Army and automatically went into “defense mode” and physically disarmed Dawn Black. He told police he then took the gun and went downstairs and unloaded it, and put the ammunition in a desk drawer, the empty magazine on a table, and the empty pistol on the kitchen counter by the door. He then went outside and called a family member.

According to the complaint, officers observed Davy Black had fresh scratch marks on the left side of his face and under his left eye. Officers also found a black Smith and Wesson Shield 9mm pistol on the kitchen counter by the door, the magazine for the pistol on a table in the limiting room, and eight rounds of 9mm hollow-point ammunition in a desk in the living room.

Police also made contact with Dawn Black to discuss the incident. She allegedly reported she and her husband had been drinking and had been arguing for most of the day. She stated she went to bed between 11:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., at which point her husband was not home yet. She told police she was later awakened by him screaming at her, and he then jumped on top of her and began to strangle her around her neck with his hands.

She went on to say she attempted to grab her pistol off the nightstand, but he took it from her, and she was then able to break free. She went into the hallway, near the top of the steps, and the physical altercation continued before she was able to get away a second time. She then ran downstairs, grabbed her cell phone, and locked herself inside the downstairs bathroom, and called a family member.

The complaint notes officers observed red marks on and near the victim’s neck, and a red scratch mark on the right rear of her neck, which appeared to be fresh. Police also observed a red mark below her left knee that appeared to be fresh.
