Police: Jefferson County Mom Arrested for Falsely Accusing Neighbor of Abducting 5-Year-Old Son

CORSICA BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A Jefferson County woman is facing criminal charges after she allegedly reported that her son was abducted by her neighbor, knowing that it did not occur.

According to court documents, Punxsutawney-based State Police filed the following criminal charges against 39-year-old Alyssa Danielle Huffman on June 17:

– False Reports – Reported Offense Did Not Occur, Misdemeanor 3
– Disorderly Conduct Hazardous/Physi Offense, Misdemeanor 3
– Public Drunkenness And Similar Misconduct, Summary

The charges stem from an incident of false reports made to state police that occurred at a residence on Church Street Extension, in Corsica Borough, Jefferson County.

According to a criminal complaint filed by Trooper Fairman, around 5:04 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, Alyssa Huffman contacted PSP Punxsutawney stating that her five-year-old son was abducted by a neighbor, and the neighbor was refusing to release him.

Upon Trooper Fairman’s arrival around 5:10 p.m., Huffman was located outside of the neighbor’s residence screaming: “He has my kid in there,” and she appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance, the complaint states.

Huffman also related that she viewed her son through a window sitting on the living room couch just prior to Trooper Fairman’s arrival. At this time, Trooper Fairman peered through the window but did not see anyone.

Huffman again stated: “He is in there with my son.” Force was then used to gain entry into the residence, and no one was located in or around the property, the complaint indicates.

At this time, Trooper Allison and Corporal Hageter, of PSP Clarion, spoke to Huffman’s mother who resides at the same location as Huffman. She related that Huffman’s son was currently with his father in Brookville, according to the complaint.

The location and safety of the child were confirmed, the complaint states.

According to the complaint, Huffman is currently housed in the Jefferson County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 25 at 11:00 a.m. with Magisterial District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak presiding.
