Police Find Man Unresponsive at Wheel of Vehicle in Young Township, Drug Paraphernalia Found

YOUNG TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Charges are pending against a man who was found unresponsive behind the wheel of a vehicle on Sunday in Young Township.

Around 12:26 a.m. on June 28, Punxsutawney-based State Police responded to Hilldene Lane near its intersection with State Route 119 in Young Township, Jefferson County, for a report of an unresponsive man behind the wheel of a white GMC truck.

Police say upon their arrival at the scene, they spoke with an eyewitness who reported the driver of the vehicle was unresponsive and said he had to break the vehicle’s passenger side window and throw cold water on the driver to wake him up.

According to police, while speaking with the driver, a number of indicators of drug-related impairment were detected, and a battery of field sobriety tests were then conducted.

The driver, a known 24-year-old Kittanning man, was then placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI.

Police note two syringes were also observed in plain view in the vehicle, and a probable cause search then found additional drug paraphernalia.

The investigation is ongoing.

The name of the accused was not released.
