Police Investigating Hit-and-Run Crash in Work Zone on I-80 in Union Township

UNION TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that occurred on Tuesday evening in a work zone on Interstate 80 in Union Township. 

According to DuBois-based State Police, the crash occurred within a construction zone on Interstate 80 westbound, near the 107.0 mile marker, in Union Township, Clearfield County, around 7:27 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16.

Police say 41-year-old Shid A. Chonjo, of Columbus, Ohio, was operating a 2018 Freightliner Cascadia in the left lane, just prior to a right lane closure, when the operator of an unknown vehicle attempted to gain entry into the left lane, striking the tractor-trailer on its right side mirror.

The operator of the unidentified vehicle did not stop and continued to travel westbound.

Chonjo traveled to Exit 101 westbound off-ramp to give a statement regarding this crash.

The tractor-trailer sustained minor damage.

Chonjo was using a seat belt and was not injured.
