Police: Man Falls Asleep at the Wheel on I-80, Crashes into Guide Rail

car-accident-graphic-5254_jpg_475x310_q85-300x225SANDY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – Dubois-based State Police say a one-vehicle crash occurred around 9:33 p.m. on April 6, on Interstate 80, at mile marker 100.6, in Sandy Twp, Clearfield County.

According to police, Randolph McCoy, Jr., 38, of Tobyhanna, was traveling west on Interstate 80 in the right lane and fell asleep behind the wheel of his 1997 Honda Prelude

The vehicle traveled across the left lane of travel and struck the guiderail along the south berm of Interstate 80, police say.

Upon impact, the vehicle rotated in a counter-clockwise motion against and traveled 30 feet parallel with the guide rail before coming to a rest adjacent to the guide rail on the south berm, facing east, according to police.

McCoy suffered minor injuries; he was using a seat belt.

He was charged with a traffic violation.

State police were assisted at the scene by Sandy Township/Oklahoma VFD and Dubois EMS.
