According to police, the incident began around 2:53 a.m. on October 21.
Police say 18-year-old Peyton A. Shaw, of DuBois, was operating a 1999 Acura Integra traveling west on U.S. 322 when he illegally passed a vehicle near the intersection with Rathmel Boulevard.
Police then initiated a traffic stop on Shaw’s vehicle, but Shaw reportedly fled at a high rate of speed. He then failed to negotiate a left curve and his vehicle traveled off the south side of the roadway, where it struck a mailbox before continuing, sideways, to the west. The vehicle subsequently struck a tree and became disabled on the south side of the roadway.
According to police, Shaw was not wearing a seatbelt.
No injuries were reported.
