Police Release Details on Hit-and-Run in Brookville

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – DuBois-based State Police say a hit-and-run accident occurred on Interstate 80 in Brookville, Jefferson County.

According to police, the collision occurred around 2:59 p.m. on February 18 as the unknown driver of a Peterbilt tractor-trailer and Thomas J. Zook, 67, of Bellville, were both traveling eastbound on I-80 near the 79 mile marker.

The driver of the tractor-trailer abruptly applied the brakes while traveling in the left lane to avoid traffic backlog. The tractor-trailer began to jackknife and crossed the broken center line of the roadway with the trailer portion of the vehicle, police say.

Zook was traveling in the right lane when the tractor-trailer began to jackknife, and the right rear trailer corner impacted the front left corner and the left rear of Zook’s 2007 Ford F-350, according to police.

After impact, Zook came to a controlled final rest on the right shoulder of the roadway.

The driver of the tractor-trailer fled the scene traveling eastbound, police say.

Zook was uninjured in the collision.
