PINE CREEK TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Sausage was the culprit in a recent crash along Route 28 in Pine Creek Township, Jefferson County.
Punxsutawney-based State Police say the crash occurred on October 15 around 6:00 p.m. when the driver of a 2010 Kenworth began choking while eating a piece of sausage.
The driver told police that after he began to choke, he started coughing. He said that he “must have blacked out because he remembered feeling a bump, and then he realized he was in the grass.”
Police say the truck drifted off the west side of the roadway and traveled through the yard of a church before crashing into a “Do Not Pass” sign.
The vehicle then struck a light post and a mailbox in a residential yard before the driver of the truck “realized what was happening.”
He was then able to safely pull the truck off the side of the roadway, according to police.
No injuries were reported and the truck was driven from the scene.
The name of the driver was not released.
He was not cited.
