GASKILL TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State Police in Punxsutawney are searching for two imposters who posed as water utility employees to gain entry into a Gaskill Township residence.
According to police, a known male suspect approached a homeowner on January 29 around 1;00 p.m. and stated that he needed to enter the home to check the water.
While the victim was distracted by the suspect, a second male suspect entered the residence.
The victim asked for identification, at which point both suspects told the victim they needed to retrieve the requested identification from their vehicle.
The suspects then entered the vehicle and fled the scene.
A similar incident occurred in Clarion County on the same date around 3:15 p.m.
Anyone with information pertaining to this case is asked to call Punxsutawney-based State Police at 814-938-0510.
Pennsylvania American Water Company reminds customers that all Pennsylvania American Water service personnel wear uniforms, drive company-branded vehicles, and wear photo identification badges with the company’s logo. Customers are urged to take time to examine the photo identification tag whenever a Pennsylvania American Water employee arrives at their home or business. The company does not accept payment at a customer’s house or business.
If a utility worker comes to your home and you are not expecting them, do not let them into your home without proper identification. Residents with any suspicions about the individual’s identity should call 9-1-1 immediately.
