Police Seeking Information on Fire at Vacant Apartment Complex in Punxsy

investigationPUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – Police say early this morning a fire occurred at a vacant apartment building on Gilpin Street, in Punxsutawney, Jefferson County.

According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, around 2:30 a.m. on October 1, a fire at 214 S. Gilpin Street was discovered by a neighbor.

The building was a three-story apartment complex; however, the building has been vacant since this past February or March. The building was also without utilities, police say.

The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit was requested to determine the origin and cause of the fire. That investigation is currently ongoing, according to police.

Damage to the building was estimated at $200,000.00, police say.

There were no injuries reported, according to police.

Police say the owner of the building is Virginia Martha Shaffer, of Rossiter, Pa.
