Police: Summerville Man Victim of Theft by Deception

SUMMERVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, sometime between 8:00 a.m. on April 30 and 10:30 a.m. on May 6, an incident of theft by deception occurred on Heathville-Ohl Road, in Rose Township, Jefferson County.

Police say an unknown perpetrator(s) attempted to deceive a Summerville man out of $2475.00.

The unknown perpetrator(s) asked the victim to cash a fraudulent cashier’s check and then wire the funds via Western Union to a fake account, according to police.

It was discovered by the victim’s financial institution that the cashier’s check was fake, so payment was denied, police say.

An investigation continues.

The State Police reminds the public to be cautious when buying/selling online.

Do not wire funds to an unknown party.
