Police: Man Steals Car, Strikes And Kills Woman in Sandy Township

Police car lightsSANDY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – Sandy Township Police have an unidentified man in custody after he allegedly attempted to steal multiple vehicles, obtained one, and while attempting to flee he struck a woman who was cutting her grass, killing her.

Police report several calls were received at around 12:30 p.m. August 12 for various activities taking place along Brown Street in Sandy Township, Clearfield County.

Police arrived to find citizens restraining a man outside of a residence along Brown Street near its intersection with Blakely Avenue.

Officers learned the man allegedly attempted to steal multiple vehicles from residences along Brown Street, then obtained a vehicle and attempted to flee.

In the process of committing the theft and fleeing, he struck Betsy Val Andryak, who was cutting grass in front of her residence.

Andryak died as a result of her injuries.

Police report a suspect is in custody and his name and charges will be released when the charges are filed.

Sandy Township Police were assisted at the scene were Sandy Township Fire Department, State Police, DuBois City Police, EMS personnel, the Clearfield County Coroner’s Office and District Attorney Bill Shaw.
