Police: Sykesville Woman Faces Charges for Refusing to Bring Juvenile for Child Advocacy Center Interview

SYKESVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Charges have been filed against a Sykesville woman who reportedly refused to bring a juvenile in for an interview at the Child Advocacy Center in relation to a suspected child abuse case.

Court documents indicate the Sykesville Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 57-year-old Anna K Shimmel.

According to a criminal complaint, in April, Sykesville Borough Police contacted Anna Shimmel about bringing a known juvenile to a Child Advocacy Center for a forensic interview, but Shimmel reportedly refused.

After speaking with the District Attorney’s Office, police were advised to inform Shimmel that if she did not bring the juvenile for an interview, charges of intimidation, retaliation, or obstruction in a child abuse case and endangering the welfare of children charges could be filed against her.

Police then spoke to Shimmel again on April 29 and informed her of the situation, and she stated she would need to contact her attorney and get back to them.

According to the complaint, police then contacted Shimmel again on May 11, and Shimmel told them she had decided not to bring the juvenile for the interview, knowing that she would face charges for the refusal.

Shimmel was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 27, on the following charges:

– Endangering Welfare of Children – Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, Misdemeanor 1
– Obstruction, Misdemeanor 2

She remains free on $20,000.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. on June 22 with Judge Inzana presiding.
