Police: Three Life-Flighted Following Head-On Crash on Route 119; DUI Charges Pending

(EYT) – Punxsutawney-based State Police say DUI charges are pending following a two-vehicle accident that occurred around 4:54 p.m. on February 11, at the intersection of Yates Road and State Route 119, in Young Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, Edward L. Wonderling, 29, and Phyllis L. Quick, 50, both of Punxsutawney, were involved in the collision.

Police say Wonderling was traveling north on SR 119 and crossed into the southbound lane of travel. His 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt struck Quick’s 2012 Jeep Compass head-on.

Both vehicles came to a rest in the southbound lane of travel.

Wonderling, Quick, and the front seat passenger in the Jeep Compass were transported by Life Flight to Altoona General Hospital with unknown injuries.

The rear seat passenger was taken to Punxsutawney Area Hospital with unknown injuries.

Police say the passengers in Quick’s vehicle were Linda Ruth, 64, of Rossiter and Kandi Swanson, 36, of Glen Campbell.

Police did not indicate which passenger was life-flighted.

All occupants of Quick’s vehicle were using seat belts.

Wonderling was not using a seat belt and allegedly admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages prior to the accident, according to police.

Charges for DUI are pending further investigation, police say.

State police were assisted at the scene by Lindsey VFD, Central VFD, Elk Run VFD, Jefferson County EMS, Sykesville EMS, Stat MEDVAC, Jefferson County Constable, and South Side Towing.
