Caller Scams 80-year-old Rossiter Man Out of $1500

investigationCANOE TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney-based State Police are investigating a recent case of theft by deception in Canoe Township, Indiana County.

Police say the crime occurred as an unknown actor contacted an 80-year-old Rossiter man via telephone, claiming to be the man’s nephew.

The caller stated that he was in jail and needed money to make bail.

Police say he instructed the victim to purchase three $500 iTunes gift cards.

The victim purchased the gift cards and provided the numbers from the gift cards to the suspect.

The case remains under investigation.
