Driver Flees Scene of Route 119 Crash


YOUNG TWP., Pa. (EYT) – According to police, a Punxsutawney man fled the scene of a crash that occurred on Saturday morning on State Route 119.

According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, around 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, February 29, a 2007 Jeep Compass was traveling north on Route 119, north of Hazel Lane, in Young Township, Jefferson County, when the operator lost control of it. The vehicle veered off into the southbound travel lane of Route 119 and into the left side of the roadway, traveling approximately 415 feet before coming to a final rest.

Police say the driver – 29-year-old Cody J. Weiland, of Punxsutawney – fled the scene but was later located.

He was not injured.

Charges were filed in District Court 54-3-01.
