Teen Escapes Injury in One-Car Crash on Route 36

Police car lightsELDRED TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Marienville-based State Police say around 10:00 p.m. on December 23, a one-car accident occurred on State Route 36, south of Ferguson Road, in Eldred Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, a known, 17-year-old Clarington female was traveling north on Route 36 and proceeded to make an illegal and unsafe pass. A witness indicated that the teen observed a southbound oncoming vehicle approaching and had to take evasive action to avoid the oncoming vehicle.

Police say the teen abruptly steered her 2004 Pontiac Grand Am to the right and lost control of it. The car spun out of control and rotated counterclockwise before striking an embankment on the east shoulder of Route 36. The car continued in a forward motion on Route 36 before colliding with the embankment a second time. The car continued forward while again rotating counterclockwise. The car came to a rest facing west and blocking the northbound travel lane of Route 36.

The teen was using a seat belt and was not injured.

She was charged with a traffic violation.
