Multiple Agencies Respond to Dumpster Fire in Punxsutawney

Red FiretruckPUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney Police report a dumpster fire took place on Cranberry Alley in Punxsutawney Borough, Jefferson County.

According to police, on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 2:52 p.m., Punxsutawney Area Fire Department was dispatched for a report of a dumpster fire endangering a structure.

Police first on scene reported a fully-engulfed construction “roll-off” dumpster on fire.

The fire was quickly extinguished by the use of foam by the Elk Run Volunteer Fire Company, and water from Central Volunteer Fire Company.

The Punxsutawney Borough Police Department, Jefferson County EMS and Punxsutawney React assisted at the scene.

Damage was contained to the dumpster and reduced to a minimum by the quick response. After reviewing surveillance camera video from area businesses, it was determined that the fire was accidental.

People are reminded to check their trash before disposing it in a trash receptical.
