Punxsutawney Baseball Shuts Down ECC, Brockway Gets Victory

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (D9Sports) – Logan Johnston and Tyler Richardson combined on a four-hit shutout, and Punxsutawney scored 10 runs on just five hits on its way to a 10-0, six-inning win over visiting Elk County Catholic.

Johnston got the win going five innings allowing two hits and three walks while striking out seven. Richardson pitched a scoreless sixth allowing a pair of hits.

Richardson and Johnston also drove in a pair of runs each with Richardson going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and Johnston 0-for-2 with a walk. Brandon Matthews added a pair of hits, a run scored and an RBI for the Chucks with Derek Huey and Adison Neal each scoring twice.

Alex Fedus had a double for ECC.

Hunter Cashmer took the loss going five innings allowing five runs, two earned, on four hits, a hit batter and a walk while striking out two.


EMPORIUM, Pa. – Scoring multiple runs in each of the third through sixth innings visiting Brockway grabbed a 13-9 win over Cameron County.

The Rovers scored three in the third, two in the fourth, four in the fifth and three in the six to account for 12 of their 13 runs.

Brockway had five different players record doubles including Matthew Clark, Zach Foradori, Conner Ford, Joel Gaston and Ben Glasl.

Glasl was 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs with Clark going 2-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and two RBIs. Ford was also 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored with Cameron Baka going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Foradori going 1-for-3 with two walks, a run scored and two RBIs.

Tyler Serafini got the win going six innings allowing seven runs, three earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out one.

Bryce Bauer and Adam Shaffer each had a pair of doubles for Cameron County.

Bauer was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs, while Shaffer was 3-for-3 with four runs scored. Adam Streich also added a double and a run scored the Red Raiders with Dino Brown going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs and Adam Brown also driving in a pair of runs.

Alex Umble took the loss going 4 ⅔ innings allowing 10 runs, nine earned, on nine hits and five walks while striking out five.


SPRING MILLS, Pa. – Eli Glass threw a three-hit shutout, as visiting Clearfield beat Penns Valley, 3-0.

Glass didn’t walk a batter and struck out 10 needing just 88 pitches to get the complete-game win.

Jakob Sorbera drove in two runs for the Bison going 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Nathan Barr was also 2-for-2 with a run scored.


BELLEFONTE, Pa. – Colton Burd’s walk-off sacrifice fly lifted Bellefonte to a 3-2 win over visiting DuBois.

Two singles and an error on a bunt attempt had loaded the bases for the Red Raiders before Burd lofted a fly ball to center to score the winning run.

CJ Funk went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to lead Bellefonte.

DuBois stats weren’t available.


BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Putting the game away with a seven-run fifth-inning, Redbank Valley notched its first win of the year with a 14-6 victory over Brookville at McKinley Field.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Redbank Valley Municipal Park, but moved to Brookville because of better field conditions and it was the Bulldogs who banged out 12 hits while pitchers Ethan Harman, Bryan Layton and Hunter Martz combined for the win on the mound.

Martz had three hits while Logan Wadding, Layton, and Nick Smith each had two hits. Wadding and Jimmy Gundlach doubled. The Bulldogs scored their seven runs in the fifth with the help of just two hits, taking advantage of two errors and five walks.

Harman got the win, allowing seven hits while striking out one and walking two in four innings. Layton threw two innings while Martz finished the game in the seventh.

Aaron Park had two of the Raiders’ eight hits, including an RBI triple in the first inning. Tyler Park and Seth Dunkle doubled in the Raiders’ two-run fourth that got them within 5-4.

Starter Dane Lyle was the losing pitcher, allowing five runs, two earned, in 2 1/3 innings.


FRILLS CORNERS, Pa. – Zander Hargenrader was 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and four RBIs to lift North Clarion to a 13-3, five-inning win over visiting Forest Area.

Matson Higgins added a 3-for-4 day with three runs scored and an RBI and also threw a scoreless inning of relief with two strikes outs.

Hargenrader also pitched in relief giving up one run on a hit, two walks and a hit batter while striking out one.

Tyler Wolbert picked up the win going three innings allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits and a walk while striking out three.

Dillon DiCorpo took the loss for the Fires.
