Punxsutawney Man Ejected from Vehicle During Crash; Life-Flighted to UPMC Altoona

A moving ambulance on it''s way to a crash site.BELL TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A Punxsutawney man was seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash that occurred last night on Graffius Avenue Extension, State Route 2017, north of Clawson Street, in Bell Township, Jefferson County.

According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, around 6:11 p.m., 24-year-old Dylan E. Irwin, of Punxsutawney, was traveling northbound in the right lane at a high rate of speed and was attempting to negotiate a left curve in the roadway. His 2006 Chevrolet Equinox left its lane traveling onto the right shoulder.

Police say the vehicle impacted the guide rail, side-swiping it after impact, and then traveled across the double yellow lines and the southbound lane and then traveled back across both lanes a second time and impacted the guide rail again. Then, the vehicle launched airborne over the guide rail and remained in flight before a third impact with an embankment/stream. During this impact, Irwin was ejected through the driver’s side front window of the vehicle and thrown approximately 10 feet in a northern direction into a small stream.

The Equinox came to a final rest on is wheels facing in an eastern direction.

Irwin was transported to UPMC Altoona via helicopter for treatment of serious injuries.

According to police, the crash involves DUI.

Central Fire Company, Lindsay Fire Company, McCalmont Fire Company, Elk Run Fire Company, Punxsutawney Ambulance, and Life Flight assisted at the scene.
