Punxsutawney Man Injured in One-Vehicle Crash in Young Township

A moving ambulance on it''s way to a crash site.YOUNG TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, around 7:10 p.m. on June 27, a one-vehicle accident occurred on Route 436, Main Street Extension, 607 feet north of Alliance Drive, in Young Township, Jefferson County.

Police say 80-year-old Phyllis E. Lopez, of Punxsutawney, was traveling north on SR 436 near Alliance Drive, and as she began to ascend a hill, she lost control of her 2003 Chevrolet Blazer.

The vehicle drove off the east side of the roadway and impacted a culvert and a road sign. It came to rest in a cornfield along the east side of SR 436 facing west, according to police.

Lopez was not injured in the collision.

A passenger in Lopez’s vehicle – 82-year-old Eugene White, of Punxsutawney – suffered minor injuries.

Jefferson County EMS transported him to Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

Both occupants were using seat belts.

Charges are pending, police say.
