According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, around 11:05 p.m. on August 21, 62-year-old James O. Baun, Jr., of Punxsutawney, was traveling north on Route 36 and failed to negotiate a left hand turn in the roadway and exited off the eastern side of the road.

Baun’s 2003 Ford F150 pickup continued traveling north off the roadway for approximately 200 feet before re-entering the road. The vehicle then rolled over and slid on its roof for approximately 100 feet before turning back over and coming to a rest, police say.

Baun was taken to the Punxsutawney Area Hospital where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries, according to police.

Central and Elk Run Fire Departments and Jefferson County EMS assisted at the scene.

Police indicated this crash was DUI-related.
