Punxsutawney Softball Doubles Up Hollidaysburg


PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (D9Sports) – A four-run fourth inning lifted Punxsutawney past visiting Hollidaysburg, 4-2.

The Lady Chucks took advantage of three Lady Tigers errors in the fourth to plate the four runs with the big hit of the inning being a double by Holly Hartman.

Grace Aikens led the Punxsutawney offense going 3-for-3.

A pair of Lady Chucks pitchers, meanwhile, kept Hollidaysburg at bay.

Elliott Ferrent got the win going 4 ⅓ innings allowing two unearned runs on five hits while striking out three. Kendal Johnson picked up the save going 2 ⅔ innings allowing one hit and a walk while striking out two.

Meghan Cutshall was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI for Hollidaysburg.

Oakley Fox-Kern took the loss going six innings and allowing four runs, all unearned, on five hits and three walks while striking out seven.

BROOKVILLE 19, BRADFORD 1, 4 innings

BRADFORD, Pa. – Scoring nine runs in the first inning and adding five more in the second, visiting Brookville posted a 19-1 four-inning win via the 15-Run Rule.

Lauren Hergert led the Lady Raiders’ 18-hit attack, going 4-for-5 with a double and three runs batted in. Three Lady Raiders had three hits and three RBIs — Aleah Ames, winning pitcher Carlie McManigle and Megrah Suhan, who added a double. Julie MacWilliams hit a double and triple with two RBIs and three runs scored.

McManigle tossed a three-hitter, striking out six with no walks.

Bradford scored its lone run in the bottom of the first on Emily Warren’s RBI double.

CRANBERRY 10, CLARION-LIMESTONE 0, 6 INNINGS

SENECA, Pa. – Andrea Watson tossed a four-hit shutout and also drove in two runs while scoring twice in a 10-0 Cranberry win over visiting Clarion-Limestone in six innings.

Watson walked three and struck out five while going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Meanwhile, Rachel McCauley belted a pair of home runs for the Berries and was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Also for Cranberry, Malliah Schreck was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs, Maddie Cornelius was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and an RBI and Megan Hadden was 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

Megan Stahlman, Abby Himes, Cassidy Makray and Ali Girt all had singles for C-L.
