Punxsutawney Woman Caught Driving UTV Drunk With Juvenile Passengers

BELL TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A Punxsutawney woman is facing child endangerment and related charges after being caught operating an ATV with two juvenile passengers while intoxicated.

Court documents indicate the Punxsutawney-based State Police filed criminal charges against 31-year-old Ashley Nicole Perry, of Punxsutawney.

According to a criminal complaint, around 12:16 a.m. on July 25, Punxsutawney-based State Police observed a red, white, and blue four-door Polaris RZR with no registration plate on Airport Road in Bell Township, and initiated a traffic stop.

According to the complaint, the driver, later identified as Ashley Nicole Perry, had two children in the ATV with her and stated she was taking the kids home to a residence right down the road.

The complaint states the trooper noted an odor of alcohol on Perry and asked her if she had anything to drink. She allegedly stated that she did, but was “okay to drive.”

Perry was then asked to submit to field sobriety testing during which she displayed signs of impairment, according to the complaint. She was subsequently transported to Punxsutawney Area Hospital for a legal blood draw.

The complaint notes her blood sample was later found to have a BAC of 0.117%.

The following charges were filed against Perry through Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on September 1:

– Endangering Welfare of Children – Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, Misdemeanor 1 (two counts)
– DUI: General Impairment/Incapable of Driving Safely – 1st Offense, Misdemeanor
– DUI: High Rate of Alcohol (Bac.10 – <.16) 1st Offense, Misdemeanor - Unlawful Operation - Registration Decal Or Plate, Summary - Proof Of Insurance Required Produced And Displayed, Summary - Unlawful Operate Snow/ATV Under Influence, Summary - Operation On Streets And Highways, Summary - Unlawful Operate Snow/ATV In Careless Way, Summary A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on November 5, with Judge Mizerock presiding.
