Punxsy Man Accused of Hitting Woman With Stick Waives Hearing

BIG RUN BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A Punxsutawney who reportedly hit a woman with a stick during a domestic dispute waived his hearing in court on Tuesday.

Court documents indicate the following charges against 33-year-old Chad William Chiplis were waived for court on Tuesday, June 30:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

The charges have been transferred to the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas.

Chiplis remains free on $10,000.00 unsecured bail.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred in Big Run Borough in late May.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 4:38 p.m. on May 29, Punxsutawney-based State Police were dispatched to a residence on Watt Street in Big Run Borough, Jefferson County, for a report of a domestic incident.

According to the complaint, a known female victim reported that she was in a verbal altercation with Chad William Chiplis when he picked up a wooden stick and struck her across the left elbow.

The complaint police observed the victim’s elbow was swollen, red, and had a scratch consistent with being struck.

Chiplis was then also interviewed and reportedly admitted to hitting the victim with a stick during the altercation.

He was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana at 9:50 p.m. on May 29.
