Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 8:31 a.m. on September 2, a known woman reported being assaulted by Frederick Luffey.

According to the complaint, the victim stated she and Luffey were in a verbal argument on August 27, around 7:00 p.m., at a location in Punxsutawney Borough. She reported that during the argument, she took her two children from the residence and fled to her friend’s residence to get away from Luffey, and when she returned later that night, she found Luffey had left.

The victim told police she then put her children to bed and returned to her bedroom and fell asleep. She reported she was then awakened by a loud bang downstairs around midnight and went to see what it was.

According to the complaint, the victim stated when she got to the kitchen, Luffey grabbed her arms and pushed her to the floor, then punched her with a closed fist on the side of her neck and punched her nose, causing it to bleed. She reported Luffey then began kicking her, six to seven times, in the legs, stomach, and back, causing large bruises.

The victim told police Luffey took her cell phone, tossed it to the ground, and attempted to break it. She said when the phone didn’t break, he tried to break it by hand and then tossed it into a fish tank.

The victim reported she then made it to the kitchen and grabbed a knife, then told Luffey to stop hurting her and leave. She told police he then left and did not return.

The complaint notes the victim reported she had locked the doors to her home prior to going to bed, and Luffey got inside by pushing open a bathroom window and climbing through it.

According to the complaint, the victim was taken to Punxsutawney Area Hospital for treatment of head, leg, and neck injuries.

Luffey was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock at 8:14 p.m. on September 2.
