Punxsy Man Charged With Throwing Ashtray at 86-Year-Old Mother Waives Hearing

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – A Punxsutawney man who was arrested on Christmas Eve after reportedly throwing an ashtray at his 86-year-old mother waived his hearing in court on related charges on Tuesday.

Court documents indicate the following charges against 62-year-old Rodney Lee Silvis , of Punxsutawney, were waived for court on Tuesday, January 4, 2022:

– Aggravated Assault – Attempts to Cause SBI or Causes Injury With Extreme Indifference, Felony 1
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Endangers Welfare of Care-Dependent Person for Whom He Is Responsible, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

The charges have been transferred to the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas.

Silvis is currently free on $35,000.00 unsecured bail.

The charges stem from an incident that took place at a Young Township residence on Christmas Eve.

Details of the case:

According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, Jefferson County EMS dispatched troopers to a residence on South Main Street Extension, in Young Township, around 12:53 p.m. on Friday, December 24, 2021, for an 86-year old victim who had been struck in the head with an unknown object.

Upon arrival, police observed lacerations to the victim’s head, and she related her son, Rodney Lee Silvis , had thrown an ashtray at her, police say.

Silvis was subsequently taken into custody.
