Punxsy Man Pleads Guilty to Assault Charge

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – A Punxsutawney man pleaded guilty on Wednesday to an assault charge.

Court documents indicate 24-year-old Cody Alan Whelpley entered a guilty plea on one second-degree misdemeanor count of simple assault on December 16.

As a result of the plea agreement, one summary count of harassment was dismissed.

A sentencing date for the case has not yet been scheduled.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 2:39 a.m. on April 29, Punxsutawney-based State Police were dispatched to a report of a domestic incident at a residence on Cloe Church Street in Bell Township, Jefferson County.

The victim reported that Cody Whelpley struck her in the face with a closed fist following a verbal argument. The victim indicated there was a physical injury to her head and right eye area, and police observed there was a contusion to her right eye, as well as swelling to the area, according to the complaint.

Whelpley was then placed under arrest for simple assault and harassment.

While being transported, Whelpley reportedly made a voluntary statement that he “knew he messed up,” and “should not have done what he did” to the victim, the complaint notes.
