Punxsy Man Seriously Injured in State Route 119 Crash

HENDERSON TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State Police say a two-vehicle accident occurred Saturday afternoon on State Route 119 in Henderson Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, 23-year-old Kera D. Nesslein, of Duncannon, and 28-year-old Kenneth J. Mercer, of Punxsutawney, were involved in the collision.

Police say this crash occurred around 2:16 p.m. on Route 119 near the intersection with Paradise Road.

A 2005 Pontiac minivan – driven by Mercer – was traveling north, and a 2017 Jeep Latitude – driven by Nesslein – was traveling south. While negotiating a right curve, the minivan crossed the center line into the southbound lane, impacting the Jeep.

The minivan rolled over and came to a final rest on its driver’s side in the middle of the roadway.

The Jeep came to a final rest on the west side of the road.

Both drivers and two passengers in Nesslein’s vehicle – 23-year-old Joseph A. Nesslein, of Duncannon and a male juvenile – and a passenger in Mercer’s vehicle – 31-year-old Nathan R. Hornung, of Emporium – were transported to area hospitals for injuries.

Mercer was seriously injured.

The extent of injuries of the other occupants is unknown.

Both vehicles sustained disabling damage.

Brosius Towing removed the vehicles from the scene.

Sykesville EMS, Jefferson County EMS, Punxsutawney Fire Department, and Big Run Fire Department assisted at the scene.
