Punxsy Man Who Allegedly Cooked Meth ‘To Stay Out of Jail’ Will Stand Trial

meth-bustPUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – A Punxsutawney man will stand trial in October for allegedly operating a methamphetamine lab at a residence on Perry Street.

Thirty-two-year-old Peter John Base waived his preliminary hearing on May 23 and is scheduled for trial on October 11 in front of President Judge John H. Foradora. Currently, Base is being represented by public defender John Mark Ingros.

Base is still lodged in the Jefferson County Jail after failing to post bail.

According to a previously-published story on exploreJeffersonpa.com, Punxsutawney-based State Police filed the charges against Base on April 26.

According to a criminal complaint filed at District Judge Douglas Chambers’ office, the investigation was initiated on April 25 after police received a call indicating that methamphetamine was being manufactured at a Perry Street residence.

Around 6:15 p.m., a search of the residence was executed by the Pennsylvania State Police Clandestine Laboratory Response Team.

The team found various items used to manufacture methamphetamine. Drug paraphernalia was located in Base’s bedroom.

Other residents at the home reported noticing the odor of “fuel” and “alcohol” coming from the basement on separate occasions.

One resident said he purchased Sudafed for Base in mid-April. Base allegedly stated that he needed the medicine for a sinus issue.

Additionally, a white powder substance found in Base’s bedroom was sent to the Erie Crime Lab where it tested positive for Methamphetamine.

According to court documents, Base allegedly told his sister that he was “making Methamphetamine, so he could get money to pay his fines, so he did not go to jail.”
