Punxsy Middle School Evacuated After Bomb Threat; Felony Charges Pending Against 12-Year-Old Girl

Crime ScenePUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney Middle School was evacuated Wednesday afternoon after a bomb threat was issued at the school.

Punxsutawney Borough Police dispatched officers to the scene after receiving a report of a bomb threat around 12:47 p.m.

After the school was evacuated, Pennsylvania State Police Bomb Dog Detection Dogs were requested.

While waiting for the dogs to arrive, a suspect was identified via a handwriting sample. The suspect, a 12-year-old female student, was interviewed at the scene, according to police.

Police say the girl confessed that the threat was a hoax after officers confronted her with the handwriting sample.

According to police, the following felony charges will be filed against the juvenile:

– Terroristic Threats-Cause Evacuation
– Weapons of Mass Destruction-Use Causing Evacuation

Punxsutawney State Police assisted at the scene.

Elk Run Fire Department was placed on standby during the incident.
