Punxsy Woman Faces Charges for Giving False Name to State Trooper

WASHINGTON TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A Punxsutawney woman is facing charges after she gave a false name to a state trooper when she was pulled over for speeding.

Court documents indicate the DuBois-based State Police filed criminal charges against 23-year-old Jayden Rachelle Welder, of Punxsutawney.

According to a criminal complaint, around 1:12 p.m. on August 1, a traffic stop was conducted on a gold 2004 Dodge RAM for a speeding violation on Interstate 80 eastbound near the 93.4-mile marker in Washington Township, Jefferson County.

Trooper Himes, of the DuBois-based State Police, approached the vehicle and advised the driver she was going 86 miles per hour in a 70 mile per hour zone and asked to see her license and other documentation for the vehicle.

According to the complaint, the driver was unable to locate her license and the other paperwork and said she did have a valid license but did not have it with her. Trooper Himes then asked her to write down her name and date of birth, and she complied.

Trooper Himes then returned to his patrol vehicle and attempted to look up the name and date of birth provided, but found no results. He then provided the name and date of birth to the DuBois-based State Police desk personnel to have them attempt to identify the driver; however, they were also unable to find any information.

According to the complaint, when Trooper Himes returned to the driver and advised her she would be transported back to the DuBois-based State Police barracks for fingerprinting for identification purposes, the driver advised that her real name is Jayden Rachelle Welder, and went on to say that she lied about her name because her license was suspended.

The complaint notes a query of the updated name and date of birth led to a positive identification.

The following charges were filed against Welder through Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana’s office on August 15:

– False Report – Falsely Incriminate Another, Misdemeanor 2
– False Identification To Law Enforcement Officer, Misdemeanor 3
– Failure To Carry License, Summary
– Failure to Notify Change in Address, Summary
– Driving While Suspended Or Revoked, Summary
– Operate Vehicle Without Valid Inspection, Summary
– Exceed 65 OR 70 MPH For All Vehicles By 16 MPH

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. on September 25, with Judge Inzana presiding.
