Purple Heart Award Ceremony for State Trooper Bradley Wilson Postponed

QfjKatkxTd6AJitLXJ219APUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Due to the death of Corporal Bryon K Dickson II, who was fatally wounded during an ambush-style attack at the PSP-Blooming Grove Station on September 12, the Purple Heart Ceremony for Trooper Bradley Wilson scheduled for September 17 at the Punxsutawney Headquarters is postponed.

The service will be re-scheduled, and details will be disseminated as they become available.

The Pennsylvania State Police Purple Heart Award is presented to troopers or enforcement officers who receive serious bodily injury in the line of duty, or who are shot by a criminal and require medical treatment, no matter the degree of injury. The nominee must have been actively engaged in the performance of their duties when the serious bodily injury was sustained. The injury must have been the direct result of a criminal act intended to do harm, or done in a manner reasonably expected to produce harm either to the nominee of a third party, or if the trooper or enforcement officer was engaged in saving or attempting to save another from death or serious bodily injury.

Trooper Wilson was shot twice and critically injured by an assailant while serving a search warrant with other law enforcement officers at a private residence near the Borough of Brockway, Jefferson County, PA on September 26, 2013. The injuries sustained by Trooper Wilson resulted in significant paralysis, and his recovery has been long, difficult and is ongoing.
