Ramirez Clubs Homer as Curve Beat Binghamton Mets

BINGHMATON, N.Y. – Harold Ramirez clubbed his second home run of the season as the Altoona Curve defeated the Binghamton Mets, 5-2, on Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium.

The Curve (38-31) picked up their fourth win in the last five games while the B-Mets (28-40) have dropped seven of their last eight games.

Reese McGuire went 3-for-3 in the game and finished a home run shy of the cycle.

After a two-out double by Kevin Newman in the third, Erich Weiss brought him in to score with a single to plate the first run of the game against Binghamton starter Tyler Pill (Loss, 3-8).

Binghamton tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Johnson, but the Curve regained the lead with a single Edwin Espinal in the fourth and an error in right field that allowed McGuire to score.

Espinal plated McGuire with an RBI single in the sixth inning and Ramirez hit a two-run homer in the seventh to extend the Curve lead to 5-2.

Alex McRae (Win, 1-2) allowed two earned runs over 5.2 innings with two walks and two strikeouts to pick up the first Double-A win of his career. He allowed seven hits in the game, but three of them were to the last three batters he faced before being replaced by Edgar Santana.

Santana (Hold, 1) worked 2.2 perfect innings with three strikeouts. Montana DuRapau (Save, 12) struck out the side in order in the ninth to close out the Altoona win.

The Curve and B-Mets continue the three-game series on Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Right-hander Clay Holmes (5-4, 5.16) will be on the mound for the Curve, opposed by right-hander Rainy Lara (4-6, 3.97) for Binghamton. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
