Randal Damien “Shums” Shumaker

Randal Damien “Shums” Shumaker, 42, of Punxsutawney, passed away at home on April 2, 2021.

He was born in Punxsutawney on October 31, 1978, the son of Randal Meade Shumaker and Kelly Ann (Cielo) Shumaker.

Randy attended Punxsutawney Area High School and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He was a highly intelligent young man from the beginning of his school years, he excelled at most subjects very quickly and retained his knowledge.

He was loved by many. He made friends easily because he had a great sense of humor, quick wit, loyalty and devotion to his friends. “Shums” was a trend setter for the latest fashions. He always cared about his appearance regardless of where he was going. Randy grew up on Ashland Avenue and had deep lasting bonds with all the neighborhood kids.

His proudest life event was the birth of his daughter, Amirah. He loved her beyond measure. His eyes would light up when he spoke of her and his admiration for her ran incredibly deep. Becoming a father was better than he could have ever imagined.

“Shums” had a compassionate and kind heart for others, he was always willing to help and was generous with his time. He cared about his neighbors, family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughter, Amirah; his girlfriend, Sharlynn Patterson; and paternal grandmother, Kathryn Ann Shumaker.

He is preceded in death by his dear sister, Rachel Renee Shumaker; infant sister, Sarah Ann Shumaker; maternal grandparents, Pauline (Bianco) Cielo and Kenneth Cielo; paternal grandfather, Fred Pritner Shumaker.

There will be no visitation. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
