BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – Randon “Randy” Bartley has announced that he will seek the Republican nomination for the 66th District in the House of Representatives in the primary election.
“The people of the 66th District have been represented by outstanding legislators, “Snuffy” Smith, Sam Smith, and Cris Dush,” said Bartley. “I hope to continue that record of remarkable service.
“People have asked if I am running against other Republicans,” said Bartley.
“My answer is no. I am not running against anyone. I am running for the people of the 66th District.
“My entire life I have been a volunteer in my community. Following my retirement, I had an opportunity to serve on the Brookville Borough Council. I have enjoyed being on the council. It is an opportunity to serve not only the community but also individuals. Government should be about helping people.
“Harrisburg is the swamp on the Susquehanna. It needs to be reformed,” he said.
“One person cannot change that culture but one voice can join with a chorus to effect real change. That is my goal – to lobby for change that will benefit the people of not only the 66th District but all of Pennsylvania.”
Bartley was appointed to the Brookville Borough Council in January 2018 and was elected to that position in November.
Bartley is a Brookville native. He attended the Brookville High School and Clarion University before entering the U.S. Army Reserve.
He has been active in community affairs having served as the president of the board of directors of the Jefferson County Historical Society; president of the old Western Pennsylvania Laurel Festival; and chairman of the Victorian Christmas Committee for the Brookville Area Chamber of Commerce. He also served as the chairman of the Jefferson County Bicentennial Committee.
Currently, he is a member of the Brookville Laurel Board, American Legion Post 102 where he is a member of the Brookville Honor Guard, and the Jefferson County Emergency Operations Center.
He is a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church where he serves as a board member.
On the Brookville Borough Council, Bartley serves on the Storm Water, Property, Residential Maintenance committees, and is the chairman of the Community Resources Committee.
Bartley was honored by the Brookville Area Chamber of Commerce with the Dr. Walter Dick Award, by the Jefferson County Historical Society with the Arthur Altman Award and with several citations from the Pennsylvania Senate and House of Representatives.
He is the retired editor of the Jeffersonian Democrat. Bartley is the author of “Jefferson County: Pioneers to Aviators.”
Bartley and his wife Barb have been married for 33 years. They have a daughter and two grandsons.
“My mother raised four children alone after my father died,” said Bartley. “I know how difficult it can be for single-parent families and people who work hard and struggle to make ends meet. The people in this region need an opportunity. If elected, I will work tirelessly to bring economic development to the area.”
“I retired after 25 years as the editor of the Jeffersonian Democrat and found out very quickly that retirement was not for me,” said Bartley. “Like many people of my generation, I found out that there was more work to do. I hope I will be permitted to work for the people of the 66th District.”
