Raymond R. Breckenridge

Raymond R. Breckenridge, 92, of St. Marys, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021, at his residence.

He was born August 15, 1929, in Buffalo, NY, son of the late Raymond A. and Rita Kronenwetter Breckenridge.

Ray was raised by his paternal grandparents, George and Margaret Breckenridge from the age of 5 on the Breckenridge dairy farm in Durhamville, New York.

After graduating from Verona High School, Ray enlisted in the United States Navy serving in Newfoundland during the Korean Conflict.

He attended Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana and graduated in 1956 with a Chemical Engineering degree.

Ray went on to work for Stackpole Carbon Company and retired after 33 years of service.

He was a member of the St. Marys American Legion Post 103 but visited various Legion Posts throughout the United States.

Ray and his family visited Hawaii for his 75th birthday which completed his visits to all 50 states.

Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, basketball, softball, and golf.

Ray also volunteered as a Knothole baseball coach, swim meet official, and worked several years to help clear the land for the current Bavarian Hills Golf Course.

In 2011, Ray was inducted into the Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame for having voted consecutively at every November election for over 50 years.

His greatest love was his family, of whom he was so very proud.

Ray is survived by his daughters: Nancy Walter (Richard) of Elizabethtown, PA; Chris Balentine of Medford, NJ; and Maureen B. Earley (John) of Mechanicsville, VA; six grandchildren, Jessica, Jeff, Brittany, Alyssa, Alexis, and Tyler; and by four great-grandchildren: Adam, Sophie, Ben, and Vivienne.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria (Hanes) Breckenridge; and his son-in-law, Jack Balentine.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. at the Lynch-Radkowski Funeral Home, 169 Center St, St. Marys, PA.

A memorial service will follow with the Rev. Peter Augustine Pierjok, OSB, officiating. Full military rites will be accorded by the St. Marys Servicemen’s Burial Detail.

Burial will be in the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
